Background
After graduating from Soddy Daisy High School in 1990, Dr. Shipley attended the United States Military Academy at West Point where he played offensive tackle for the Army Football team while majoring in Military History. Upon Graduation in 1994, Dr. Shipley was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in the U. S. Army. After a brief stint at Fort Benning, Georgia for Airborne School and the Infantry Officer Basic Course, he reported to the 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 6th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson, Alaska. While with the 501st Infantry, Dr. Shipley served as a rifle platoon leader, anti-tank platoon leader, and assistant operations officer. Upon leaving the Army in 1999, he briefly served as a substitute 7th grade Science teacher at Soddy Daisy Middle School prior to accepting a position with General Motors in Ohio as a production line supervisor. Dr. Shipley would spend the next 11 years in supervisory roles in manufacturing and auto racing. In 2010, he made the choice to pursue a career in education and became a substitute teacher for Hamilton County Schools.  Dr. Shipley was offered a position teaching 8th Grade Social Studies at Soddy Daisy Middle School beginning in January of 2011 where he was also an assistant coach for both the football team and the track team. He accepted a position at Sale Creek Middle High School in the fall of 2013 to teach 8th Grade U. S. History and help launch the high school football team. He moved to the high school side of the building to teach World History for the past four years. For the 2023-24 school year Dr. Shipley returned to the middle school to once again teach 8th Grade Social Studies while adding the role of 8th Grade Team Lead. He is currently in his 11th year at Sale Creek. Dr. Shipley has earned 3 graduate degrees, all focused on education and educational leadership. Dr. Shipley has been married to his wife, Sandra, since 2002, and has two daughters (Lori and Jeanna), one son-in-law (Greg), two granddaughters (Leonna and Jada), and one grandson (Kenzo).
